Options galore for Author Bio Shortcode plugin

My Author Bio Shortcode WordPress plugin has received a substantial update today, adding a bunch of new options.

Thanks to some helpful and constructive criticism from Richard Tubb about my blog I’ve been making a few updates including wanting to put a bio below each post, which reminded me I already had a handle little tool for that! Not satisfied that it only printed out the bio, I wanted to add my avatar and also some wrapper HTML to make styling the whole thing a little easier.

Version 2.0 of Author Bio Shortcode now does that. If you want to use it, or upgrade, I’d suggesting checking out the usage instructions at the WordPress.org plugin repository to see the fine detail. You can also see it in action at the bottom of this post!

Enjoy!

Update! Based on Nara’s comments I’ve just added some name parameters too, so that you can add the author’s name as well as bio.

Hey! Your plugin helped me into something I couldn’t do for days. But I have a doubt, I am newbie in the WordPress plugins and I preferred to ask directly to the creator. Well, it’s kinda simple, I just want to add the author’s name in the shortcode, before the bio. How can I do this?

    Thanks!

Hi Nara, glad you like the plugin! Funny that you ask… I want that too, but didn’t realise until after I’d submitted the new version. I might well add that sometime in the next week, so keep an eye out!

    Hi, Phil,

When I use your shortcode the avatar gets stacked vertically on top of the bio, rather than flush left like it is in this post, above. Any suggestions for me to get it to look like yours, above? Thanks!

Hi Max, just looked at your site and it looks like it’s nicely sat to the left, as it is here. What browser are you using?

Hey! I’ve just installed your great plugin – just wandering how you get the avatar and links into the bio? If the bio comes from the user’s biographical info in WordPress, then I don’t see where to upload an avatar or add links… Thanks!

      Hi Inga!

WordPress uses the Gravatar service for avatars. Basically, register for a Gravatar account using your e-mail address and your WordPress site simply asks Gravatar for the avatar associated to that e-mail address.

Quite a few sites use it including WordPress.org and WordPress.com ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you so much! The problem is that I am the editor of the blog with multiple authors, most of whom probably don’t use Gravatar. Does it mean I can’t add a photo and/or links to their bio?

Nope, it just means you need a plugin ๐Ÿ™‚ Activate Simple Local Avatars to add the ability to upload an avatar, rather than use Gravatar.

Thank you for being so helpful and patient with me ๐Ÿ™‚

Great plugin – working well but having issues on formatting. Relative WordPress and coding newbie, so be gentle with me ๐Ÿ™‚ How would I go about adding a border and background colour to the bio? And is it possible to make the avatar into a link instead of the name?

Glad you’re enjoying it ๐Ÿ™‚ Styling the box is something you’ll need to do in your theme really – by tweaking the CSS. That’ll require some knowledge of CSS so if you don’t possess that, you’ll need to search out a developer to help you.
